Phillip Magliolo

Owner

Big Heart Carers was launched in the early stages of 2017. Big Heart Carers is paying homage to my parents. My father had Lewy Bodies Disease and my mother is a breast cancer and stroke survivor. I have treated each patient with the care that they deserve. I have worked with patients who have, or have had, Motor Neurone Disease; Dementia; Alzheimer’s; a Stroke; as well as Amputees.

My goal is to treat all patients with the dignity that they deserve, in the surroundings and comfort of their own homes. I work with integrity, honesty, and above all, a genuine passion for the job at hand. We have a genuine love for people.

Big Heart Carers is a family that treats all its patients with sincerity.

Eric Larbi

Eric Larbi is a senior enrolled nurse with 5 years working experience. His place of birth is Sefwi Wiawso and nationality is Ghana. He started his nursing school in the year September 2012 and completed November 2014 from Sefwi Wiawso nursing training school in the western north region of Ghana. H also did hisclinicals or practicals at the 37 Military hospital in Accra (Ghana)during my studies​​.

Eric passed nursing training licensure which led to his appointment as an enrolled nurse in 2015.

Whilst on duty I was mostly assigned to the Emergency Department and other wards where he demonstrated great professionalism to both client and staff, leading to to promotion to senior enrolled nurse grade.

Amanda Dickson

Amanda has experience in Catheter care (change catheter) , trach care( change the inner tube trach ), Pegcare (cleaning Pegcare + feeding patient with Pegcare), Bathing patient ( shaving + wash patient hair + body wash), check patient Vitals ( Bp, Sats, HR),

Amanda Van As

Amanda is an  approachable person with pride in her work ethic and professional appearance. She has a hands-on attitude with an energetic approach to her career and work. She is very happy working in her current work group, and works well under pressure.

Bridgert Jaravani

Caregiver

Bridgert did her course at Hope Foundation at Famhealth Medipark in Gelvandale Port Elizabeth with sister Jacobs and Dr Govender in 2017.

She had seven Patients, whom she assisted with their day-to-day routine. This included helping with their medication and exercise as well as cleaning and cooking for them. She has experience in helping patients with Dementia, Strokes and is currently helping a lady with blindness and beginning stages of Demntia.

Leoni Sali

Caregiver

Leoni is a caregiver with over 10 years of experience. She first started to gain experience working in the UK at Yanwath Care Home from 2002 to 2007. Working with the Elderly with Alzheimers and Dementia. After which she came back to SA, and graduated at Robin Trust Homebased Nursing School in 2008. From there her practical took her to Huisgenot and Aurora where she ended up staying and working with kids with special needs at the Care Home. She also got the opportunity during covid to complete her journey at Orsmond TB Hospital assisting to the need of TB patients and Covid.

Lucia Kyeri

Caregiver

Monique Malgas

Monique is a hardworking, driven  individual who isn't afraid to face a challenge. She a bubbly people's person and  passionate about her work and knows how to get the job done. She values honesty and reliability.

She has previous experience with dementia and cancer patients as well as patients with Parkinson's.

Ofemia Arends

Caregiver

Ofemia has been a health care worker for 6 years. She did her course at Dr Govender Famhealth.

I have a passion for caring for the elderly and have worked with patients with Alzheimers, Dementia, and Parkinsons.

Ofema really love what she does. "Just knowing  you are making a difference in someone's life, is worth it."

Wendy Portsmouth

Wendy Portsmouth is a retired enrolled nurse. She worked at blood transfusion for over 20 years. She also worked at St  George's hospital in various wards and theater. She has taken care of loved ones with dementia ,Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.  She loves caring and communicating with people. On numerous occasions she has gone the extra mile, "which I get great pleasure out of." She feels that putting a smile on someone's face makes all the difference. Getting someone to laugh is just as pleasing.

Progress has worked with Stroke ,Diabetic and Hypertension Patients, the Elderly and Dementia Patients. Assisting them with personal care,bathing and dressing for improved patient hygiene and wellbeing. Har duties also included monitoring and recording of vital signs, Blood Pressure ,Pulse and Glucose Levels.
She cooks healthy meals for her patients and then helps with feeding and drinking if necessary. She also assists with administering medication as prescribed. Engaging in friendly conversations for emotional support. She ensures her patients are in a clean and safe environment by regularly dusting and cleaning their living space.

Heleen van Rooyen

Heleen's passion is Aged care work. She says: "It's rewarding in itself and provide the opportunity to meet a wide variety of older people.When you provide support to older people you are able to make a tremendous difference to their quality of life and achieve real personal satisfaction through your work."

Precious Madziwa

Caregiver

Precious describes herself as an empathetic Care Giver with a sensitive & caring attitude centered on treating people with dignity & respect. She believes in a compassionate approach with the objective of offering enhanced care, delivered through a flexible learning approach to patients. She is qualified in assisting elderly, children, convalescence and people with disabilities with daily living activities in home or within a care facility.

Rolene Pieters

Caregiver

Rolene is a caregiver with 25 years of experience in the field.

She has worked in Rehabilitation Centres, Old Age Homes and Private Home Care.

She has taken care of patients with Parkinsons, Alzheimers & Bipolar disorder. Also patients who had cancer, suffered from strokes, people with disabilities, spinal cord injuries, tube feeding, geriastics and more.

Rolene can also do suctioning for patients with tracheostomy.

Lynette Olivier

Caregiver

Lynette is a caregiver with very personal experience in the field. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age. Although they were told they would never have children, they were blessed with two healthy boys. Unforetunately, in 1998, Lynette's husband became ill again. Complications included a colostomy as well as amputation of his right leg. Lynette was his caregiver until his passing in 2003.

Lynette decided that caregiving is her calling in life and started training at Big Heart Carers.

Her training include: First Aid Training and Workshops relating to Dementia.

Today, Lynette is a qualified and accredit caregiver with the heart and passion for taking care of the elderly. Seeing their eyes light up is what motivates her daily.

Jeamrè de Villiers

Caregiver

Jeamrè's caregiving journey started after a very good friend sustained a spinal injury and became a quadriplegic. She took over his caring and during this time gained experience day to day caring such as assisting with showering. She also learned about catheterisation and taking care of pressure sores.

She was then employed as a private carer for an 88 year old patient that had dementia and suffered from a stroke. 

Jeamrè then had to care for her mother, who became completely dependent because of Multiple Sclerosis.

Nadia Gribi

Caregiver

Nadia studied at ABA College in Town, did my practical's in Huis Genot which is based in Algoa Park. I've worked with residents that had Cancer, Stroke, Dementia and some were bed redden. I chose to be a caregiver because of the that I enjoy working with old people and helping them in which ever way they need to be helped and I have patience and love that they need.
